Public Speaking & Dashboard Tweaking

Weeknote #13 (28 July - 3 August 2025)

· Weeknote

It felt like a slow week, but I seem to have found plenty to write about...

I spent a bit of time getting FreeAgent up-to-date for my business finances (month end and all that). Pleasantly relieved to find that I had money owed to me.

I also went through the process of setting up my ‘Companies House Personal Code’, which meant using the new UK Gov ‘One Login’ app. After a frustrating start (I’d downloaded the wrong app), the whole process was very easy. See here for why company directors and PSCs (and others) need to do this.

I finished writing, and published, an article about my father (on the blog / on LinkedIn); about what I have learned and inherited from him.

Following on from some nascent discussions way back in April, I’m going to be giving a talk in September. I had already started putting together a Speakery Presentation Canvas, but spent some time this week thinking about the story I want to tell. (Taking as much help as I can from Danny Fontaine’s book, ‘Pitch’†). More detail about the talk to follow, once the event has been formally publicised.

Chased up a fractional operations role that’s gone quiet. I hope something comes of it, because it sounds like a really interesting organisation and they have a great product.

On the creative side, I drafted a couple of new poems. Both 'came to me' almost fully formed. With a couple of quick re-visits, they should be done. I’m a little behind in where I should be with regards to “Earworms & Emotions”, but not too worried about that right now, as I’ve been busy on other things.

Other than that, I:

  • spent some time on GovCamp Cymru activities around finance and security.
  • tarted up my AirTable dashboards
  • worked through some n8n tutorials
