Changing Tracks & Meerkat Packs

Weeknote #9 (30 June - 6 July 2025)

· Weeknote,Strategy,Agile

In a week where my son turned 18, I’ve been looking at ISA and LISA options for his child trust fund. LISAs look great, but they’re going to have to up the mortgage limit at some point as it hasn’t tracked house price increases to date.

I had a thought - an analogy for agile project delivery. I was thinking about it like a goods train. The wagons on the train are the stories / features / values being delivered. They can be re-ordered or swapped in and out. The track (route/destination) is the goal; you can change the points up ahead to change the destination, but chances are the goods you’re carrying are not suitable for that destination, so the wagons will have to be replaced.
I’m not so sure, now that I’ve written it down. Or maybe I’m just not describing it well.

Any thoughts?

Work

Created an outline for an article on ‘Agile Strategy Delivery’

Reviewed my Q2 end, then gutted and rebuilt my business strategy (in Weekdone). Eating my own dogfood, as the saying goes. I made use of my Business Meerkat card deck to pick scenarios and stress test the strategy.

Added some new automations in Weekdone and AirTable.

Interesting elsewhere

Still on a high from watching Gary Numan (and family) at Glastonbury, I’ve mostly been listening to ‘Intruder’ and ‘Savage’. (‘My Life is Ruin’ has been my earworm for most of the week.) Honourable mentions go to: Boris Blank; Madilyn Mei; Wet Leg; Attrition.

Watched the rest of season 2 of ‘The Chelsea Detective’, series 1 of ‘Running Point’, and season 1 of ‘North Shore’, and caught up on the latest episodes of ‘Murderbot’ and ‘Sandman’.

Also watched an interview with Martin (‘Attrition’) on You Tube. Very interesting, but sound quality / editing a little off.
