A Strategic Feat & Relentless Heat

Weeknote #10 (7 - 13 July 2025)

Cor! What a scorcher!

I struggled to concentrate on deep work, due to the temperature and the inability of my cottage to dissipate heat.

That said, some progress was made on some fronts.

Most importantly, having finalised my strategy for the rest of the year, I sorted out some objectives for this quarter. I also put together some ‘tactics’ (projects/activities) for those objectives. At this stage of the quarter, it’s mostly about:

  1. Getting the fundamentals in place that will kick-start the journey to the objectives,
  2. Testing the efficacy of the ‘how’ - running experiments to make sure that what I’m proposing will do the job. (Or fail early to allow a pivot.)

I created a new AirTable project to support the promotion of my creative writing and SubStack blog; I created some interfaces so make it easier for me to see how things are, along with a couple of workflows that help me keep track of things.

Somehow, I managed to prioritise all the things I want to (be paid to) do. This is meant to help me stop over-focussing on non-core activities, but do I have the self-discipline to keep to it? Time will tell.

Writing

I did the bare minimum of published writing (due to the weather & concentrating on strategy), but I did manage to draw a few more diagrams, that will become blog posts / one-pagers at some point.

Other

Watched:
’The Old Guard 2’, the purpose of which seemed solely to be to create a reason to film ‘The Old Guard 3’.
Started on ‘Scrublands’ (Season 2) and ‘The Chelsea Detective’ (Season 3).

Listened:
I listened to dribs and drabs of stuff in the background - when trying to knuckle down to some work. The only thing I think I played to actually listen to was “Electrified (Special Deluxe Version)”, by Boris Blank.

In pictures

Too hot to go out. Nothing much of interest to photograph indoors. Here's a photo of my reMarkable overheating (like the rest of us). I had to resort to pen and paper! 🙀
